Tidbits:

I have been asked a number of times questions like, “How many bottles come from one vine?” The information I found, is of course, an average. Every grape variety has an average. Concord is very proliferative with average around 10+ tons per acre, but Pinot Noir is much more fickle and usually produces less than 5 tons per acre. So, here is an average:

  • One vine yields 8-12 lbs of grapes
  • One vine makes 4 – 6 bottles of wine
  • One acre has 500 -1,300 vines
  • One acre yields 4 tons of grapes (or 3,300 bottles of wine or 660 gallons of wine)
  • One ton of grapes equals 120 gallons
  • One ton equals 500-700 bottles
  • One 750ml bottle pours 5-6 glasses of wine
  • and of course, 5 oz glass of dry wine has 100 – 125 calories
